From the Director’s Chair

Greetings DECATS Families!

The final week of our program is always filled with many special experiences, such as course presentations and the culmination of our service project. Our community came together to collect over 40 teddy bears and 319 canned goods! During Thursday’s Closing Celebration, our Scholars put together a one-of-a kind performance that was a wonderful display of creativity and leadership, a “Salute to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your Scholar’s growth this summer. I pray that each Scholar walks away from DECATS with a memory or experience that has made a difference in their life.

A crucial component in improving the DECATS experience for future Scholars is the feedback we receive from you. Your feedback is critical to the success of our future programs. Both the Parent Evaluation and Scholar Evaluation are available to you on the “2021 Program” tab of your myStatus portal. We would love to hear from you and your Scholar about their DECATS experience!

Parents and Scholars are encouraged to send thank you letters to DeBusk Foundation, as they enjoy hearing about the experiences your Scholars had during DECATS. You may send your correspondences to or to DeBusk Foundation, 12644 Sunlight Drive, Dallas, Texas 75230.

You can help us continue to make a difference by contributing to the DECATS Scholarship Fund. Our program in Houston began 27 years ago with its first gift from Mr. Manuel DeBusk and his foundation’s ongoing commitment to fund programming for gifted children in Texas. We humbly ask you to prayerfully consider helping continue Mr. DeBusk’s legacy with a tax-deductible donation. Corporate matching gifts are a great way to maximize a personal contribution to our tuition assistance program.

This summer at DECATS was remarkable and was truly one for the history books filled with life-long memories during DECATS 202ONE: “The Strength Within!”
