Greetings DECATS Families!
The last week of DECATS has been amazing as we have concluded our journey together of finding “The Strength Within.” I have no doubt that our Scholars will continue to grow their inner strength, making a difference in the lives of others.
The Scholars were very busy this week completing culminating activities in their courses. Scholars showcased their creativity and intellect creating games in several courses including “Video Games: The Strength Within,” “Game On,” and “Sportsplex.” All things Olympics was the theme for “Passing the Torch” where Scholars explored everything from the countries participating to the logistics of the events. Scholars tapped into their artistic side in “Uncommon Threads” and “Bigger Than Before.” Understanding human behavior and responses was the focus in “What Would You Do.” Our Scholars became writers, producers and actors in “DECATS Digest,” “Skits and Spoofs,” and “Back to the Future.”
Dynamic, spirited, energized and faith-filled are just a few words to describe our Closing Celebration! The Scholars showcased their creativity, acts of kindness, and leadership. The Scholars embraced the Works of Mercy, through feeding the poor, by supporting a food drive for St. Vincent de Paul. Over 600 items were collected to support this ministry. Through the hard work of our “Values & Morals” Scholars and the generosity of our DECATS community, a check in the amount of $613.00 will be sent to St. Mary’s Seminary in memory of Father Ryan Stalwailz.
We would love for you to share with us your feedback and evaluation of this year’s program via our Scholar and Parent Evaluations. We ask that you take the time to reflect and work with your Scholar to complete this together. We are so very grateful for your reflections, suggestions and ideas as they are crucial to our continued growth and success. Our Director Team reads each one and considers changes accordingly. It makes us better each year. Both the Parent Evaluation and Scholar Evaluation are available to you on the “2021 Program” tab of your myStatus portal.
Has DECATS been a positive, meaningful experience for your child? Parents and Scholars are encouraged to send thank you letters to DeBusk Foundation as they enjoy hearing about the experiences your Scholars had during DECATS. You may send your correspondences to firstname.lastname@example.org or to DeBusk Foundation,12644 Sunlight Drive, Dallas, Texas 75230.
You can help us continue to make a difference by contributing to the DECATS Scholarship Fund. Our program in Houston began 27 years ago with its first gift from Mr. Manuel DeBusk and his foundation’s ongoing commitment to fund programming for gifted children in Texas. We humbly ask you to prayerfully consider helping continue Mr. DeBusk’s legacy with a tax-deductible donation. Corporate matching gifts are a great way to maximize a personal contribution to our tuition assistance program.
I would like to wish everyone a restful and blessed summer break. Once again, thank you for allowing us the opportunity to spend three wonderful weeks with your amazing Scholars!
Sincerely in Christ,
Program Director, St. Anne
