Time flies when you are having fun! It’s hard to believe that we have completed our second week of DECATS. I wanted to take a moment to provide you with an update and share some of the highlights of what your scholars have been up to.
It has been an eventful and exciting week with memorable experiences as we continue to “Dive Deeper.” Our scholars have been actively engaged in various activities that promote learning, teamwork, and personal growth. Here are some of the key highlights:
Our “Manners” Scholars refined their social skills of introductions and small talk and practiced twirling pasta. They look forward to putting all of these skills into practice on Tuesday of next week during our Manners to Morals Day. “Executive Functioning” Scholars explored and practiced ways to strengthen working memory, initiative, materials management and social coordination. During “Wellness,” Scholars discussed stressors, healthy body image and nutrition. Our “Values & Morals” Scholars were hard at work with their service project, a canned food and toiletry drive benefiting St. Vincent de Paul.
Scholars in “Blood and Guts” were busy dissecting crawfish, frogs, and starfish. Frescos, stained glass and one of a kind crosses were created in “Which Art in Heaven.” “Slime Time” Scholars continue to experiment with viscosity and texture. In “LEGO Robotics,” Scholars designed and programmed robots to tackle various obstacle courses.
I have gotten so many wonderful messages from families who are experiencing the impact that DECATS is having in their lives. We are blessed to have such talented Mentors with whom I have the pleasure to work. They are a tremendous collection of world-class educators. Let us know what your Scholars are saying about their DECATS experience. If we may use your comments online and in other projects, let us know that as well.
As we look forward to our final week of DECATS, we have even more exciting activities planned. I am confident that our scholars will make the most of this opportunity and create cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
Sincerely in Christ,
Dr. Kendall Shamas
