From the Director’s Chair
Dear Parents,
Our Scholars have launched into their DECATS adventure with incredible momentum, energy, and joy. From the very first day, they’ve shown that they are ready to take it to The Next Level—in learning, leadership, and personal growth.
Each morning, our assemblies are alive with song, dancing, and prayer. The sense of community forming among our Scholars is inspiring, with new friendships and growing confidence across the campus.
Our foundational courses have set the stage for powerful development. In Manners, Scholars practiced introductions and first impressions—skills that will serve them for a lifetime. In Executive Functioning, they began mastering impulse control and mental flexibility. Wellness invited them to explore healthy habits for both mind and body, while Values and Morals sparked deep reflection on ethics, character, and decision-making. In Perspectives, we introduced our core philosophy: “Better at” does not mean “better than”—an essential mindset as they continue to rise to The Next Level of leadership, empathy, and self-awareness.
Our electives are where passion meets possibility. From the design ingenuity of A-maze-ing, to the teamwork in Glory Games and Sportsplex, to the creativity of Paintings Possible, and the strategic brilliance of A Game of Kings, Scholars are exploring their gifts and talents in diverse and exciting ways.
As we move into our second week, we’re not slowing down—we’re leveling up. Even more opportunities for collaboration, challenge, and creativity await. We encourage you to talk with your Scholars each evening—ask them what they’re learning, what’s surprised them, and how they’re growing. Your conversations at home will help bring their experiences full circle.
We would love to hear what your Scholars are sharing. If you’re willing to let us use your reflections online or in future DECATS projects, please let us know. We are proud to be boldly devoted to developing young leaders ready to take their gifts to The Next Level—not just here at DECATS, but in the world beyond.
Joyfully,
Dr. Kendall Shamas
