From the Director’s Chair
Dear DECATS Families,
It’s hard to believe we have already completed our second week, Deep in the Heart of DECATS! The days have flown by as our Scholars continue their Texas-sized adventure of discovery, creativity, and learning.
This week, our Scholars journeyed even deeper into learning through engaging courses that challenged them to think, create, and grow. In Manners, Scholars practiced introductions, small talk, and proper table etiquette as they prepare to shine during Manners to Morals Day on Tuesday. Executive Functioning Scholars strengthened important life skills such as organization, initiative, working memory, and social coordination. During Wellness, students explored ways to manage stress, develop a healthy self-image, and make nutritious choices that support lifelong well-being. Our Values & Morals Scholars put faith into action by launching a canned food and toiletry drive benefiting St. Vincent de Paul.
Our elective courses have been full of excitement and discovery this week. In Food Truck Showdown, Scholars put their creativity to work as they developed food truck concepts and designed menus featuring their own signature dishes. Mythbusters Scholars explored whether the Texas sun could be used to cook food by designing and testing their own solar ovens, learning firsthand about the power of solar energy. Meanwhile, in Kitchen Chemistry, Scholars combined science and sweets as they used chemistry concepts to make their own ice cream. It has been wonderful to see Scholars learning through hands-on experiences while having fun working together.
As we saddle up for our final week of Deep in the Heart of DECATS, we look forward to even more opportunities for learning, laughter, and lasting memories. We are excited to see our Scholars continue to shine as they make the most of every moment on this unforgettable adventure.
Sincerely in Christ,
Dr. Kendall Shamas
Program Director, St. Anne
